SC scraps writ seeking Raut’s release

KATHMANDU, SEP 24 - The Supreme Court on Wednesday scrapped the habeas corpus writ seeking the release of CK Raut, who has been staging campaign for an ‘independent Madhes’.

A division bench of Justices Sushila Karki and Govinda Upadhyay maintained that it would be inappropriate to release him as the Special Court has extended his remand for investigation on charges of treason.
Earlier on Friday Raut, who was arrested by Morang Police on charges of involvement in secessionist campaign, was produced before the court following the SC order.
He was booked under Public Offence Act. Police claim that they have evidence to prove his involvement in a separatist movement.
